Inspiration
The inspiration for the Hot Haggis pizza came from a desire to experiment with bold flavours and create a dish that’s both comforting, exhilarating and full of spice – enough to get a sweat on… Just enough along the heat index that my wife will love it and be completely unphased… and I’ll still manage to get by and enjoy it! Traditional haggis is a dish of rich, earthy flavours, and by pairing it with spicy elements like jalapenos and n’duja sausage, I’ve created a pizza that’s bursting with taste and excitement.
The combination of a classic tomato base, hearty haggis, and the fiery kick of jalapenos and n’duja makes for a pizza that’s both familiar and adventurous. And to balance out the heat, we’ve finished it off with a drizzle of hot honey, adding a touch of sweetness that perfectly complements the spice.
Transformation: The Pizza Creation
Transforming these two classics into a pizza is as easy as it is delicious. Here’s how you can create this culinary masterpiece:
Start with the Base: Make your favourite pizza dough. You can check my recipes here, or you can make it from scratch or use a store-bought one if you’re short on time or find it a bit daunting at the moment.
- Tomato Base: Spread a generous amount of tomato sauce over the pizza base. This will be the foundation of your flavours.
- The Haggis: Crumble cooked haggis evenly over the tomato base. This will provide that hearty, spiced flavour that haggis is known for.
- Spicy Elements: Add slices of jalapeno and crumbled n’duja sausage over the top. These will bring the heat and excitement to your pizza.
- Drizzle of Hot Honey: Once the pizza is baked, finish it off with a drizzle of hot honey. This will add a touch of sweetness that perfectly balances the spice.
- Bake:
Pizza Oven: Preheat your pizza oven to approximately 400°C (750°F). Bake the pizza for about 90 seconds, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
Fan Oven: If you’re using a conventional oven, preheat it to 200°C (428°F). Bake the pizza for 12-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
